Testing

free tests via GP
Anchor 1

I am experienced in a variety of functional tests, but I do not use these as a matter of course as I am mindful of the accumulative financial burden of therapy.

I am also a firm believer of treat the symptoms not the test. However, I will suggest tests when they are appropriate and affordable.   There are many tests that can be carried out via your GP to reduce costs (click here for getting the most out of your first session).

The two tests I use most often are:

Metabolomix £375

This test requires a sample of the first-morning urine. Your sample needs to be sent using guaranteed next day delivery or via courier – (not included in price).  There is also the option of add-on bloodspot finger stick and buccal swab. The Metabolomix+ looks for accumulation of organic acids in the urine that can signal a metabolic inhibition or block. The metabolic block may be due to a nutrient deficiency, an inherited enzyme deficit, toxic build-up, or drug effect.

Enzymes that are responsible for metabolising organic acids are vitamin and mineral dependent. With this, elevations in organic acids can reflect a functional need for these nutrients on a cellular and biochemical level, even despite normal serum levels. Recommendations for nutrient supplementation based on elevated organic acid results are generated using a literature-based proprietary algorithm. This test is a non-invasive way to explore malabsorption and dysbiosis and assess the functional need for antioxidants, B-vitamins, minerals, digestive support, fatty acids, and amino acids.

Who might benefit from Metabolomix?

Common clinical indications for testing include:

  • Mood Disorders

  • Mitochondrial Dysfunction

  • Fatigue

  • Chronic Stress

  • Inflammation

Several diseases are associated with abnormal organic acid, amino acid, and fatty acid levels such as depression, anxiety, cardiovascular disease, neurocognitive decline, diabetes, cancer, anorexia, and many others.

Turnaround time for receiving results is 19 working days. Your results will come directly to me. I will interpret your results and provide you with recommendations in a follow-up consultation.

DNA Testing - Nutrigenomics

What is nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics (nutritional genomics) is broadly defined as the relationship between nutrients, diet, and gene expression.

Although we are born with a specific genetic blueprint, our environment can influence the expression of our genes. This is the exciting science of epigenetics, meaning our genes are not our destiny.

Food is one way we can influence our genetics, and this is the science of nutrigenomics.

By studying any tiny variations in your genes called SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms which are a bit like spelling mistakes) we can get a greater insight into your weaknesses. This way we can really tailor the diet and lifestyle advice.

When you want a deeper dive into what may be driving your symptoms, I can offer DNA testing.
